Kimonos featuring composite Pop Art portraits
The backs of these kimono jackets in luxury bamboo fabric feature composite portraits created by assembling thousands of photographs of knitted versions of the same image, which are then printed onto the bamboo. The fronts, sleeves and bands are printed with thousands of the tiny component images in contrasting colours.
This kimono features a large composite portrait of Andy Warhol based on his Self Portrait (1967). It was created by assembling 4,500 photos of knitted interpretations of a selection of Warhol screen prints/ paintings, each representing a different colour: Self Portrait for the red background, Flowers for the blue shadow, Judy Garland for the turquoise face, and Marilyn for the yellow highlights in his hair.
The fronts, sleeves, pockets and bands are printed with thousands of the tiny component images.
