Description
Lou Reed (2 March 1942 – 27 October 2013) was a brilliant American artist/ poet/ musician/ guitarist/ singer/ songwriter who documented our times in his music with passion, integrity and humour. He was lead singer and guitarist with the Velvet Underground before launching a prolific and highly influential solo career that spanned more than 40 years. The Velvet Underground was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996; Reed was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist on 15 April 2015.
Transformer (1972) was a ground breaking album produced by David Bowie. The stunning album cover, designed by Ernie Thormahlen, featured a brilliant photograph by Mick Rock.
I designed this sweater vest in tribute to both Lou and the album cover. When Lou Reed first came to Australia in 1974, a woman who had bought the sweater wore it to his first press conference in Sydney. Lou sent her to find me with the message: I’ve decided not to sue and would like to order 20. It was the beginning of a great adventure.
